A labor leader, an air regulator and an oil exec walk into a California oil field

The Carbon Terra Vault 1 Project, led by California Resources Corporation, California’s largest oil driller will soon be the first company to inject compressed carbon emissions deep underground in the state.
The ground breaking was lauded by state and local leaders alike:
- “There’s no viable path to that midcentury goal without carbon capture and storage.” Steve Cliff, the executive officer of the California Air Resources Board
- “The world is coming to grips with the fact that we cannot completely decarbonize quickly. This is the proving ground. This is the opportunity.” Dave Noerr, the mayor of nearby city of Taft, at the event.
- On what it means for jobs and the local economy…“Our members are ready to get to work.” Chris Hannan, the president of the State Building and Construction Trades Council of California
